  • Mckensie Medallion 2006 Fifth Wheel Landing Gear Troubleshooting That Doesn't Raise or Lower
  • Sounds like you have a bad Venture gear box. Which for that you would need the part # LG-179015. You would not need to jack the trailer up to any unusual heights to install this either. The install is pretty straightforward and does not require any unusual tools either.

  • Recommended Electric Tongue Jack for a 24' Car Trailer with 10,000 lb. Capacity
  • For your car trailer I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3755. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs. and 1,500 lbs. So with the 3,500 lb. capacity of this jack you have plenty of room to spare. Since this question was asked from a A-frame jack, I am working under the assumption that is what you have. This will have a bolt-on...

  • Can a Trailer Be Pulled With a Faulty Breakaway System
  • The trailer breakaway's are required in most states so I cannot advise for you to continue traveling without having the system repaired or replaced. It sounds like you have already identified the culprit (shorted wire) so what I recommend is just ordering a new system that way you can get it installed and hit the road again as soon as possible. The Pro Series Push to Test Breakaway Kit part # 50-85-315 is what I recommend for this because it is cost effective and easy to install. That said,...

  • What is the Warranty of the Tekonsha Circuit Tester # 8010
  • The Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 that you referenced has a limited 1-year warranty that basically covers manufacturer defects. Tekonsha would be the one who would fix the unit in the unlikely event it malfunctioned. It is hard to say how long they would take but I imagine they would get it back to you as soon as possible. We have yet to hear a negative thing about the # 8010 so I would safely assume customers are happy with it. This should help you with testing all the...

  • Hand Wheel Coupler Replacement Recommendation
  • I wish we had replacement parts that would work for your trailer, but the best solution we have would be to replace the coupler since we do not carry the repair kit you need. For a similar hand wheel style coupler we have the part # T2343400.

  • How Much Air Should You Put In a ST135/80-13 Trailer Tire
  • There is not a standard tire pressure rating for all ST135/80-13 tires with a load range C rating. The proper tire pressure rating will actually be the maximum tire pressure rating which is listed on the sidewall of every trailer tire by law. This will allow you to retain the full weight capacity of the tire and is the tire pressure rating you will need to abide by. There is one exception to this however and that is the Goodyear Endurance Trailer Tire which uses a fill chart based on the...

  • Can I Use a Smaller Size Spare Tire On a Boat Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels
  • The same dynamics for passenger tires are not applicable for trailer's. Therefore, I do not recommend using a smaller tire on your trailer as a spare. The spare tire on a vehicle is mainly designed to get you to the nearest repair station. The nearest repair station most likely has the correct replacement tire for your car but not your trailer. Therefore you will be forced to either have the trailer sit idle until one has arrives or you can use a full size spare. There are much greater...

  • Upgrading to 205/75-15 Tires on a 2014 Lance M-1685
  • If you were to use the smaller tire as a spare just to get to the nearest repair facility then this is okay in most cases and a lot of our customers will do this in an emergency but a better option for you might be to obtain a different spare tire carrier, one that will hold a larger wheel/tire. For this, we have options such as the CE Smith Offset Spare Tire Carrier part # CE27310G which can mount to the a-frame portion of your trailer or the Bumper Mounted Tire Carrier part # TR-1 which...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with Spare Tire
  • The spare tire of your 2003 Chevy Tahoe can still be installed on the vehicle with the Curt Hitch part # C13422 installed. To install the hitch you would basically just raise it into position and bolt it in place with included hardware. There would be no interference with the spare tire.

  • Can Tandem Axle Trailer Limp to Repair Shop On Three Wheels
  • One of the great things about tandem axle trailers is that in the event a wheel fails you have three other ones to keep you from being totally stranded. If you have three good wheels on your trailer and don't have far to go you would be fine to limp to a repair shop. Be sure to have as much cargo out of the trailer as possible so that you don't exceed weight capacity of the single tire.

  • Recommended Sealant for RV When Passing Cables Through Floor/Wall
  • The LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Sealant part # 344270341437-1 is a universal sealant we use on RV's in our shop for all sorts of project such as sealing cable pass-throughs walls/floors. It's great to keep one of these in the trailer for quick repairs. I'd also recommend the Performance Tool Heavy-Duty Caulk Gun part # PTW54295.

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation Replacement for Size 20.5 x 8-10
  • Trailer tires that are intended for use without a tube should not have a tube installed in them. The tube would create excess heat which will cause issues. You'll have to replace the tire. For that we have the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56 which would work great. It is a Load Range E with a 1,650 lbs at 90 psi capacity. This is the modern size 205/65-10 which is the same as your 20.5 x 8 - 10.

  • Recommended Replacement ST235/80R16 Tires for 5th-Wheel Trailer
  • Trailer tire failure is usually a result of excess heat, which can arise from a variety of potential causes. The first important factor to always consider is the inflation of your trailer tires. A tire that is under or over-inflated will build up more internal heat. You should always make sure that all of the tires on your trailer are inflated to their maximum cold psi pressure as listed on the tire sidewall. Next, you always want to make sure you are not overloading the tire with more...

  • Is It Acceptable to Use Bias a Ply Tire As Spare Tire on 1999 Dutchman Tandem Axle Camper
  • A ST205/75D-14 is a bias ply tire. It would be acceptable to use it for an emergency spare but I would recommend getting the radial repaired or replaced without any delay if you get a flat tire. I'd limit the time, distance and speed the tire is exposed to as much as possible. The best practice is to use all four tires of the same construction, size and load rating. I've linked you to our Trailer Tire FAQ article, which has all kinds of helpful information about trailer tires.

  • Replacement Trailer Tire for Utility Trailer With P185/75-14
  • The closest tire size we have to the passenger vehicle tire size you mentioned of P185/75-14 is the size ST205/75-14 like the part # AM10235 which would work well. Vehicle tires are more designed for steering axles so their sidewalls aren't reinforced enough for the vertical load of a trailer so we recommend strongly you go with a trailer tire instead of what you have now.
